Are You Properly Licensed by the California Contractors State Licensing Board?
Yes. Our license number is C-61 D28 #865080. We are licensed as a Specialty Contractor.
In California, a contractor must be licensed through the Contractors State Licensing Board (CSLB) to legally perform construction, home repair and remodeling jobs that require a building permit or when the total project cost is $500 or more. If you hire someone that isn’t licensed you won’t have any recourse if the job goes bad.
Do you use employees or subcontractors?
Garage door installations and repairs require a set of skills honed on constant learning about new materials, installation methods, and processes that ensure the safety and dependable operation of your garage doors. That's why we only use our employees for our garage door projects. We want you to know that you will have a knowledgeable, well trained, quality garage door installation crew with the proper installation and repair training.
Using part-time employees and/or subcontractors makes it almost impossible to maintain quality since these workers don’t get the continual training that we provide our technicians.
How much experience do you have in garage door installation and repairs?
Since opening in 2003, we have successfully completed thousands of garage door installations and repairs. When you hire Avaunt Garage Doors, you can be assured that you are hiring professionals to evaluate and measure your project.
Will you provide advice to help me make the best garage door choice?
Yes! We take the time to listen to your needs and desires and then will help make your job easier by providing specific recommendations on materials by brand, model, and finish. We will also review the specification sheets for all materials at the time of order so you get what you expect. This is just one of the ways we take the guesswork and frustration out of the choosing the right garage door for your home.
Who will be supervising my garage door installation or repair?
The owner evaluates every job and Avaunt Garage Doors has successfully completed thousands of garage door installations and repairs. Our lead installer and owner together have over 20 years of experience in garage door installation and repairs so you can be assured that you are getting an experienced supervisor on your job.
What policies do you have in place on employee behavior?
We have a written policy that prohibits smoking in your home, and we have a zero-tolerance policy regarding drug and alcohol use on the job. We have trained our crews to act like guests in your home. Again, we encourage you to ask our references about this.
Do you carry liability and workers’ compensation insurance?
This is a very important question because liability insurance is not required in California. The California Contractors State Licensing Board does recommend that you hire a company that has liability insurance to protect your property in case of an accident.
The following information on Liability and Workers’ Compensation insurance is from the California Contractors State Licensing Board website.
Commercial general liability insurance is not required; however, it covers damage to your property. If the contractor does not carry general liability insurance, they should be able to explain how they would cover losses that would ordinarily be covered by insurance. If your contractor damages your property and doesn't carry commercial general liability insurance, you or your insurance policy could end up paying for damages.
In California, if a contractor has employees, they're required to carry workers' compensation insurance. The importance of this cannot be overstated. If a worker is injured working on your property and the contractor doesn't have insurance, you could be liable to pay for injuries and rehabilitation. Your homeowner's insurance may or may not cover those costs. You should check with your insurance carrier to make sure the workers' compensation insurance coverage being provided by the contractor is adequate.
We carry $2 Million of Liability and Workers’ Compensation insurance and we can provide the contact information for our insurance agent so you can verify coverage for the company.
Note: Workers Compensation insurance only covers employees. If the contractor utilizes sub-contractors – they must have their own Workers Compensation insurance in force otherwise the homeowner can be held responsible if there is an accident.
Do you offer any other services like remodeling or window installation?
No. We don’t do this as a sideline like some remodeling or window companies. We install more garage doors in a month than most of those companies do in a year.
When you hire our company you can be assured that you are receiving years of experience and well trained crews for your installation. Companies that do this as a sideline simply can’t keep up.
In addition, this isn’t something you can learn by reading an article in a magazine or online. Training from the manufacturer is the best way to keep up. Every year our employees are trained on the latest innovations and materials in the industry.
Do you ever install used parts on installations or repairs jobs?
No, we don’t install any used materials on either new installations or repairs.
It may disappoint or surprise you to learn that some garage door companies will install used parts and not tell you. If this happens, you will end up with more costly and more frequent repairs. This is one of the ways that less than scrupulous companies can offer what appears to be a very attractive price on new doors and service.
We only use new parts that are approved or recommended by the manufacturer. There is one minor exception: existing wires will be re-used in certain situations where it is not feasible to run new wires but we won’t install any used materials. We also retain all removed parts for your inspection.
I have read or heard about new garage doors for $399, is this legitimate?
Advertise it at that price, yes, install it at that price, maybe. Some companies do advertise new garage doors for $399 or a similar amount. This is misleading because what they fail to tell you is that it is for a SINGLE CAR GARAGE DOOR, not a double car garage door.
The reality is that they really don’t want to sell you a door for $399 because the margins are so small. In this case you will likely get high-pressure sales tactics to buy a more expensive door.
Some garage door companies will specify a lower quality door so they can offer you a lower price because they don’t expect to work for you again or to provide the periodic maintenance your door will need.
We don’t work that way. Instead, we evaluate every project and will make a recommendation for the best fit for your home and the area you live in and will specify your new garage doors by brand, model and finish. This allows you to make a true apples-to-apples comparison.
We provide specific recommendations to give you the lasting durability and look you want. We are highly motivated to make you happy because your garage door will need periodic maintenance and we want to be the company that you trust for service.
Is your price guaranteed?
Yes. And we don’t offer a super low price up front like $399 and then try to sell you a higher priced door.
A written price and satisfaction guarantee is your only protection against faulty workmanship, substitute products, and hidden charges. We diligently work to give you a price that allows us to meet your expectation and also meets the quality standards we have set.
We take extra time to detail your quote so you won’t be surprised at the end of your job. If you have established a maximum budget that you can spend and you want us to do the work – we can recommend a different door to accommodate your budget but we won’t compromise on quality just to get the job.
How does your warranty compare with your competitors?
We offer an ironclad written 2-year warranty on labor on garage door installations – that is twice as long as most of our competitors. We use the manufacturer’s installation guidelines so your materials are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
We have been in business for nearly 2 decades, so you can be comfortable that we will be around to honor our warranty if there is ever an issue. We want our customers to know that their garage door installation will still be looking good long after the last piece of hardware is reinstalled.
Do you have customer references that I can contact?
Yes! In fact, we will provide you with a list of 25 recent customers and you are welcome to call as many as you like. You are also welcome to check out our ratings on social media sites.
Over half of our work comes by referral. We believe that this is the best evidence we can offer about the consistently great service Avaunt Garage Doors provides.
